Risk Management provides legal advice to all of UCSF in any matter requiring consultation. A Risk Manager is available by pager 24/7. The BCH Nursing Supervisor should contact this pager with any concerning situation ASAP. The following situations warrant a discussion with risk:
An adverse event or complication resulting in death, brain damage, permanent paralysis, sensory deficits, partial or complete loss of hearing or sight, birth injury or disability, or other catastrophic damage or permanent disability
An incident anticipated to result in potential liability exposure or a claim
Any accusation of sexual boundary violations, either by patient/parents/visitors or by staff or physicians. So patients or parents who accuse our staff—Risk needs to know about these ASAP.
Medication Errors-any significant adverse event where there may be risk of serious injury or harm.

Search/seizure of patient belongings
